What we collect when you contact us, why we collect it, and what we do with it.

This policy applies to this website, operated by Visit Kivu, the trading name of the Bwishyura Kivu Boat Cooperative, based in Karongi District, Rwanda. We have written it to be read rather than skimmed. If anything here is unclear, ask us through the contact form and we will explain it.
We only collect what you type into a form on this site. Contact form: your name, your email address, and your message. Booking request: your email address, an optional phone number, the date and party size you asked for, and any note you add. Newsletter: your email address, and nothing else. We do not ask for payment details anywhere on this site, because no payment is taken here. We do not collect identity documents, and we do not create an account for you — there is no visitor login.
To answer you. A contact message is read and replied to; a booking request is answered with availability and a price. To send you the confirmation of something you just did — a booking receipt, or a newsletter confirmation. To send you the newsletter, if and only if you asked for it. Every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. We do not sell your information. We do not share it for advertising, and we do not build a profile of you.
Two service providers process data on our behalf, and only to deliver this site: Supabase stores the site's content and the requests submitted through it. Resend delivers the email we send — your booking receipt, your contact acknowledgement, and the newsletter. Both act on our instructions and may not use your information for their own purposes. Beyond them, we share information only where the law requires it.
Booking requests are kept while they are live and for a reasonable period afterwards, so we have a record of what was agreed. Contact messages are kept until the conversation is finished and archived thereafter. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe, at which point your address is removed from the sending list. We do not keep information indefinitely for no reason.
You may ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask us to delete it. You may withdraw consent to marketing email at any time, either through the unsubscribe link or by asking us. Use the contact form to make any of these requests and we will respond. If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR gives you these rights explicitly; we apply the same standard to everyone regardless of where you are.
This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and there is no third-party analytics script following you between pages. Your choice of language and light or dark theme is remembered in your own browser so the site does not reset every time you arrive. That preference stays on your device and is never sent to us.
Any question about this policy, or any request about your information, should go through the contact form on this site. It reaches the same inbox and it means your message is recorded rather than lost. If we change this policy, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
